A
"twtpoll" has been bouncing around Twitter for the last few
weeks asking:
"Do
You Support the Legalization of Marijuana in the United States?”
The
poll closes on June 1st. I was personally surprised to learn that
some 96% of Twitter-ers are in favour of legalizing "the green".I
know what you're thinking. "Yeah, but I bet only pot heads took
the poll". Well, no. Hundreds of people have taken this poll. It
was re-tweeted many times. Some of these re-tweeters have thousands
of followers. I think it's fair to say that the poll is a fair one.
Having
said this, one could argue that only Twitter users in favour of
legalization were likely to bother responding to the poll. But if
that is indeed the case then what does that say about those that are
against it? Does abstinence from voting not say that these people
are not really concerned one way or the other? Does the poll not
suggest that those that are opposed the legalisation are losing the
will to fight and stand up for what they believe?
Speaking
as a Brit I feel that if the same question were asked about
legalisation within the UK, the outcome would be the same.
